Online TPS Check helps companies avoid £5000 cold calling fine
23/03/2005
Selectabase has launched a new online service called TPS Check to help businesses avoid falling foul of the new laws on cold calling other companies.
For a small monthly fee, TPS Check subscribers can check telephone numbers online against a constantly updated database of numbers registered with the new Corporate Telephone Preference Service.
New legislation introduced on 24 June 2004 made it unlawful for companies to make unsolicited telephone calls to other businesses that registered a preference to opt out of receiving unsolicited calls with the Corporate Telephone Preference Service. Under the new laws a £5,000 fine can be imposed on any company calling a registered number, even if it belongs to an existing customer.

Almost 100,000 companies registered with the Corporate TPS in the first two months alone, and new registrations are being made at the rate of almost 12,000 a week. Figures updated in March 2005 show over 300,000 companies are now registered. This greatly increases the risk of companies that use the telephone as a sales and marketing tool falling foul of the new laws.

The new TPS Check service can be used on an unlimited basis and is updated daily against the central Corporate TPS register of opted out telephone numbers. For more information visit www.tpscheck.co.uk or call 01304 382211.
