Where did most people want to live in 2007? Well, new figures from Recentlymoved have revealed the top 10 UK postcode areas that people moved to during last year.
Birmingham leads the league table, closely followed by most of the London postcodes, Glasgow, Southampton, Manchester and Belfast.
Recentlymoved is a B2C marketing service from Selectabase that helps businesses target consumers in a specific geographic area just after they’ve moved house. Recently Moved gathers details of home movers in 122 different postcode areas, and makes the data available in an affordable monthly list to use in direct marketing.
The top 10 UK home-mover hotspots make particularly interesting reading if you are one of the many suppliers of goods and services that new home owners spend more money on after they move house.
For example if you provide utilities, home improvements, home furnishings, and financial services, the figures show just where the most potential customers might be found using Recentlymoved.
But even if you just promote your business locally to consumers, and your local area isn’t in the top 10, the Recentlymoved statistics still show there’s a good market out there for you.
Almost 80% of UK home movers last year relocated to one of the other 112 postcode areas outside the top 10. And Recently Moved has identified there were over 606,000 home movers last year, which averages out to almost 5,000 leads per postcode area.
This represents more than enough potential new business for local businesses such as landscapers, furniture stores, home improvement companies, insurance providers, and even local services such as bars, restaurants and leisure.

Make this New Year the time to start checking numbers against the Telephone Preference Service with 1check from Selectabase.
It may not sound the most exciting of resolutions for your business, but if you call a registered number by mistake, you could face legal action and even a £5000 fine.
The UK Telephone Preference Service is a central register of consumers who have chosen not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing phone calls, or cold calls.
And the chances of calling a registered number are pretty high. Our research suggests that over 60% of UK home numbers are now registered with the TPS, and 55% of business numbers are registered with the CTPS (the b2b version of the TPS).
That’s nearly 15 million home phone numbers and 1.2 million business numbers waiting to trip up you or your staff.
So if you use the phone for business, calling either consumers or other businesses, then you should check numbers against the Telephone Preference Service before every call.
Fortunately Selectabase provide a choice of easy and affordable ways to check the latest TPS register data, based on how many numbers you need to check…
If you have larger lists of numbers you need to check against the TPS register, use the unique Easycheck list cleaning service. Just download free Easycheck software to your PC and buy low cost credits to check your lists against the TPS, CTPS, and MPS registers, check for gone-aways and bereavements, and even de-dupe multiple lists. And your lists never leave your computer.
Visit https://www.selectabase.co.uk/i-have-a-list/easycheck/ or call 01304 382211. So that’s your new year’s resolution sorted then. And you didn’t even have to go near a gym.
